Last week One Million Moms, a group sponsored by the American Family Association, called for boycott of department store giant JCPenney if they didn't drop Ellen DeGeneres as their new spokesperson.
One Million Moms is nazi conservative group who have proclaimed theselves the most powerful tool to fight against the immorality, violence, vulgarity and profanity found in today's entertainment media. The group has vowed to protect children from the filth many segments of society, especially the media, are throwing at American children. So Ellen would be OMM enemy #1.
OMM has urged people to call JCPenney headquarters and demand that the Texas-based department store chain drop DeGeneres because the New York Times bestselling author, former American Express spokesperson, current Cover Girl model, Peoples Choice, Emmy, and Kids' Choice awards winner is gay. In other words she's obviously a cultural outsider, and not suitable to be selling American pantsuits to Americans.
OMM: "Funny that JCPenney thinks hiring an open homosexual spokesperson will help their business when most of their customers are traditional families. More sales will be lost than gained unless they replace their spokesperson quickly."
Shortly after OMM launched its campaign against DeGeneres, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Discrimination launched a "Stand Up for Ellen" website. More than 10,000 people signed an online petition supporting DeGeneres and JCPenney within 17 hours of it's launch. An LA Times poll showed that 96% of it's readers support DeGeneres.
While it may seem ridiculous in 2012 that one group's demand to have someone fired because they are "an open homosexual" can be taken so seriously, GLAAD points out that in 29 states in the US it is still legal to fire people because they are gay.
GLAAD spokesperson Herndon Graddick: "Since Ellen came out 15 years ago, the nation has evolved and support for LGBT people is at an all-time high...Although it is still legal to fire someone for being gay in 29 states, Americans are fair-minded people who know that firing someone just for being gay is not what this country is about. JCPenney is standing with Ellen and so do we."
For their part, JCPenny said late last week that it still fully backs it's partnership with DeGeneres.
Between Jan. 16 and Jan. 22, DeGeneres' daytime talk show averaged 3.38 million viewers. She has nearly 9 million Twitter followers, and 6.5 million Facebook fans. DeGeneres, incidentally, is a former JCPenney sales clerk.

Ellen is an amazing individual who has helped and supported more people and causes - and she does it with humility and genuine caring. If any of those OMM had an ounce of what is naturally part of Ellen's character and personality, they may be better people to. Children don't 'turn out that way'; they are made that way, by God or whoever,whatever. It is a great shock for parents to find out their child is gay/lesbian/transgendered, etc. but if you live with love for all mankind in your heart you will accept your child for however they were made.

Good for JC Penny for defending their choice in having Ellen represent them.
Ellen is a compassionate, kind, and generous woman. The fact she's gay has nothing to do with her appeal or the fact she works hard.
I applaud her and Portia for being so open and accessible to the public. Excellent role models.
